Why estate agency logos matter

How long is it since you sat down and took a proper look at your company logo and how it helps to represent your brand?

I'm often amazed at how old fashioned (and I don't just mean traditional) some estate agency logos are - and sadly that includes the occasional customer of ours too.

My instinct earlier this year was that our own PropertyADD logo had become a little dated, so changes are in the pipeline for us some time early next year - 2011 actually brings our 5th birthday! Maybe five years is about the right sort of interval for a refresh - it's certainly not the sort of thing you want to do very often.

Take one of our local agents, Marcus Grimes, as an example. They've just updated their look and immediately present a much more modern image. It's possibly a little more corporate too - by design or otherwise.

Your company logo says a lot about how your company is positioned against your competitors. Have you been ignoring it for too long?

I very much agree. We are a graphic design agency that have worked with several estate agents, and bringing a logo up to date can change the perception of a brand almost overnight.

Rebranding is often seen as a pointless and costly exercise, but you would be unwise to overlook this aspect of your business, and it may surprise you what an impact it can actually have on your bottom line.

Logos are hugely important. I don't midn that people refer to us as "the pink company" or the agency with the "strange eyelash logo" whether or not they like it - they remember it!

Thank you both for the comments. Your logo is certainly memorable Sam! :o)

Here in Haywards Heath the Marcus Grimes poster that shows off the new logo has been referred to as 'the vomit poster'

Remember a new logo didn't help GAP, no change for change sake.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I have to say, whether the GAP logo was intentionally controversial or not (conspiracy theories abound!), they got serious free coverage for doing it!

Certainly it wasn't all bad for them :o)

I really like the new Marcus Grimes branding. I keep seeing it on posters around the town and in Sussex Life and other local media. Very stylish looking font.
